Workshop Introduction
This two day workshop is designed to prepare learners to take the National Exam for BER for Non-domestic
buildings at levels 3 and 4. or those who wish to gain a knowledge of the process. The workshop combines
both theory and practical application and is supported by a user friendly workbook and presentations which
will be available for use during the examination.
{The workshop will also be of benefit to those who may not intend registering as BER assessors (and therefore not sit the examination)
but may be involved in design and/or construction of buildings and who wish to gain an understanding of the requirements of energy
rating for a commercial building (non-domestic building)}.
Workshop Modules
Module 1: Background material and legislation
Module 2: Building Zoning
Module 3: The Collection and Storage of information required by the calculation tool ISBEM
Included in the above modules are five syndicate exercises, that include individual and group exercises
and on case study for home study.
Tutor:
Tutor Dermott Russell lectures in Building Environment DIT and also lectures of on the Managing The Quality of Site
work and Project Planning and Programming on the CIF/CIOB Diploma in Site Management. Dermot is also
a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and also a member of the Institute of Clerks
of Works (ICWGB). In addition he also has over forty years experience in the building industry and holds a
number of qualifications the area of building energy.
Note:
It is assumed that those undertaking this workshop will have adequate knowledge and understanding of:
General construction of commercial buildings, heat loss calculations, U values etc, heating, ventilation and
air-con systems for commercial buildings.
While advice and guidance will be given on the above items they are not the main objective of the course. However additional
workshops may be provided for U value calculations and HVAC systems where the demand exists.
